Book Proposal & Book Mapping Day

Are you standing at the start of your book writing journey, wondering how to shape your ideas into something powerful?

You know what you want to write about, but perhaps feel unsure of how to organise it, or how to position it for your readers - and for yourself.

Whether you’re self-publishing, indie publishing or aiming for a traditional deal, a book proposal can be your best friend. It’s the tool that gives your book purpose & structure and gives you momentum and a real excitement to write.

Mapping out your book into sections and chapters is a must before starting to write. Thinking about your reader transformation - where they are at the start of reading and where you'll guide them to be by the end of your book - will give your work purpose and cohesion.

Not only will we consider what would work best in each chapter, we'll also think about why, what needs to have been set up for your points to hit home and what they will lead onto.

My book proposal and book mapping day is where your ideas and intentions come together and start to sing. You'll leave the day with a very clear idea of what to write, section by section, and why. The time this day will save you is immeasurable.

Should you write a Book Proposal?

Even if you plan to self or indie publish?

A book proposal lays solid foundations beneath your book. It clarifies your audience, sharpens your message and helps you build a writing process that feels purposeful and steady. It is an essential part of the writing process.

All of my book coaching clients work on a book proposal and it really does make a huge difference. Here is why . . .

It Gives Your Book a Clear Focus

A book proposal helps you gain clarity on your book’s purpose, audience and message. Who is this book for? Why does it matter? How does it stand out in your profession or genre? Answering these questions from the outset will keep your writing focused and intentional.

It Saves You Time (and Stress!)

Without a solid plan, writing a book can quickly become overwhelming. A proposal helps you outline the structure of your book before you begin, reducing the risk of unnecessary rewriting or uncertainty along the way. Knowing your 'why' leads to a much clearer knowing of your 'how'.

It Sets You Up for Bigger Opportunities

Even if you’re self-publishing, a book proposal can open doors. It provides a professional framework to present your book to media contacts, secure bulk sales, or even attract a publisher in the future, should you choose that path.

It Strengthens Your Marketing Strategy

A book proposal isn’t just about the book itself - it’s about the impact the book will have. It helps you plan how you’ll use your book to grow your business, attract clients and position yourself as a thought leader or a new star in a particular genre. You’ll develop a clear roadmap for getting your book into the hands of the right people, whether through speaking engagements, media coverage, partnerships or other marketing efforts.

It Keeps You Accountable and Motivated

Writing a book is a long process, and without a clear plan, it’s easy to lose momentum. A proposal acts as your guide, helping you stay focused and move forward with confidence.

If you’re investing time and energy into writing a book, you want to do it with purpose. A book proposal gives you the clarity, strategy and structure to ensure your book works for you - before you even write the first word.
