The three spheres of Personal Control

The Sphere of Personal Control

Control, ah, that old chestnut! Do you feel like you need to be in control? I do, it's something that I've been working on over the last couple of years but never more so than over the last week as a close family member is facing a challenging time.

Where does the need for control come from? A place of fear? Of love? Of insecurity? Probably a mix of all of these plus quite a few experiences/memories/social conditionings thrown in.

the three spheres of personal control

🌿 Look at the spheres of personal control and think about what they make you feel.

🌿 Look at what you have full control of, does it resonate?

🌿 Look at what you can potentially influence, interesting, isn't it?

And then look at where you have absolutely no control . . . take a deep breath and look again. Do you agree with it?

Recently, I did what I could to influence the outcome of a situation and then took a big step back, realising that it wasn't in my control and all that was in my control was the ability to accept this.

Interestingly, giving this space had the desired outcome and so all was well in the end - big lesson learned about agency.

Taking some time to journal on these spheres can be time very well spent, especially if you journal on the areas that you feel resistance to. Dig down deep to find the root of that resistance. Let me know how you get on, if you want to, on [email protected]

If you're interested in working with me 1:1 on developing your journey through positive psychology, have a little look at the 6 session course that I've put together for you.

All the info is here.
