The 5 Dimensions of Self Care ♥️

When you think of self care, what do you think of? A gorgeous spa day springs to mind for me but my journey through positive psychology has helped me to fully understand that true self care is in the every day, in all of the tiny moments and actions, in the ways that we actively choose to spend our time and to actually make time for what matters most.

So, what are the five dimensions and how can you bring them into your day? Let's start by reflecting on the list below. What does it bring up for you?

♥️ Lifestyle - relaxation, intention setting, time in nature, fulfilling work, routine.

♥️ Physical - sleep, exercise, nutrition, water intake, vitamins.

♥️ Emotional - Positive affirmations, self-compassion, gratitude journalling, positive mindset, healing.

♥️ People - family, friends, role models, community, therapist.

♥️ Spiritual - meditation, finding purpose, finding meaning, prayer, mindfulness.

Looking at the image or this list, what can you say that you already do? What can you say that you are actively going to work on to improve? Is it within reach? Can it be? If it's not, what can you see is blocking you? Could you journal on why that block is there?

The steps we take to improve our self care may be tiny, but tiny steps do add up. It's all about the principles of Kaizen - the Japanese practice of continuous improvement - making a 1% change every day. It may not seem like much at the time but it will certainly make a difference over time.

“It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.” Confucious.

I’m with you on your journey ♥️
