Writing a Business Book

March 27, 20252 min read

Writing a Business Book? Start With Your FAQs.

If you're writing a business or thought leadership book, chances are you've got a lot to say - but aren't quite sure where to begin?

That blank page can feel daunting. Even if you know you’ve got something valuable to share, it’s easy to get stuck in the what goes where? spiral.

So here’s a simple, powerful starting point:

Begin with the questions your clients ask you all the time.

Your business’s Frequently Asked Questions are gold dust. They’re clear. They’re relevant. And answering them gives your book an immediate sense of direction and purpose.

Even better, they help you keep the focus right where it should be - from the very beginning and all the way through: on your reader.

Your readers will pick up your book because they have a problem they want to solve, a question they want answered or a new perspective they’re curious to explore.

When you write directly to those needs, your book becomes an act of service, rooted in real-world experience, and all the more powerful for it.

From Q&A to Chapter Drafts

Rather than staring at a blank page, try thinking of it like this:

If someone asked you one of your most common FAQs over coffee, could you explain the answer in 10 minutes?

If the answer is yes - guess what? You’ve just sketched out a solid first draft of a chapter.

You’re not starting from scratch.

You’re starting from experience.

You’re starting from the questions you’ve answered a dozen times, the conversations that light you up and the clarity you’ve already brought to your clients. You really do know what you want to say.

Try This Today:

Here’s a gentle exercise to help you get moving:

  1. Jot down 5 questions you frequently hear from your clients, customers or audience.

  2. Choose just one to focus on.

  3. Free write your answer as if you're speaking directly to someone who needs your help.

That’s it. That’s writing. That’s momentum.

And even if the words come out messily or imperfectly, they are yours. Your knowledge is absolutely within you. It just needs space to breathe.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
